Lightning in Miami Beach
Original caption: A bolt of lightning strikes Miami Beach. Florida experiences a large number of lightning strikes because of sandy soil, saturated with salt water, surrounded by water. A bolt of lightning can reach temperatures approaching 28,000 degrees Celsius (50,000 degrees Fahrenheit) in a split second, about five times hotter than the surface of the sun. --- Image by © Seth Resnick/Science Faction/Corbis
